SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 4 (EUROPA PRESS) –
Last night, Joroperos emerged as the winner of the first prize for Performance in the Comparsas Contest of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival 2024. The event took place at the Tenerife International Fairs and Congress Center and drew an audience of over four thousand spectators.
Cariocas secured the second prize for Performance, with Tropicana taking the third place. Rumberos received an honourable mention.
In the Presentation category for the best costume, the top prize was claimed by the Bahía Bahitiare troupe. Joroperos and Tropicana secured the second and third prizes respectively. Rumberos was awarded the second prize.
The awards were presented by Javier Caraballero, the Festival Councilor; Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services; José Alberto Díaz Estébanez, the Councilor for the Treasury; Gladis de León, the Councilor for Citizen Security; Santiago Díaz, the Councilor for Culture; and Belén Mesa, the Councilor for Housing.
The participating groups in the contest included Rumberos, Cariocas, Bahía Bahitiare, Danzarines Canarios, Abenaura, Tropicana, Tabajaras, Valleiros, and Joroperos on this occasion.
The jury responsible for determining the Presentation awards for this year’s contest comprised Verónica Alberto Cámara, a Fine Arts graduate; Aliya Akhunova Akhunova, a costume designer; and Lumai Moreno Capuozzo, a fashion design graduate and jewelry designer.
For the Performance section, the panel included Rayco Javier González Brito (Rayco González), a musician, choir teacher, organist, and singing teacher; Sandra Montes De Oca Negrín, a Music teacher at the School of Modern Music of the Canary Islands; Patricia González Toffoi (Patricia Baker), a singer in “Tributo a Tina Turner” and show producer at Creaciones Artísticas Produce; Lorenzo Cabeza, a professional lyrical singer, member of the Di Marco Duo and a graduate in drums and percussion from the Drummer Institute of Düsseldorf; Sobeida Gómez Rodríguez, an international dancer and choreographer, graduated from Broadway Dance Center; María Odinokova, a professional dancer for international Classical Ballet companies; Aroa Nisamar Fernández Rodríguez, a choreographer and dancer; and Leila Rodríguez Hernández, a choreographer, dancer, gymnast, and dance and rhythmic gymnastics teacher.
The show was presented by journalists Wendy Fuentes and Helena Sampedro, with the Saoco group performing while the jury deliberated.
