SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Feb. 3 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The City Council of Santa Cruz de Tenerife’s union organization, CSIF, has urged the immediate removal of the anagrams adorning the booths serving as surveillance posts for the Local Police during the Carnival. These anagrams contain references to television programs, in line with the theme of the festival.

The union believes that the attempt to blend the Local Police posts with the rest of the carnival decor is inappropriate for an institution such as the Local Police Corps.

“When we mention the Police, we are referring to law enforcement officers, not just another aspect of entertainment. We carry out duties at the festivities to ensure the safety of citizens, but we are not active participants. We approach the Carnival from a professional standpoint; the two sides should not be intertwined. This undermines the Corps’ image and diminishes the institution,” stated the union delegate, Jesús Illada.

The union organization emphasizes, “politicians persistently push the idea that the Police should be seen as friends of the public, that they are part of the festivity, but in reality, we are law enforcement officers. When society views us as otherwise, it breaches that principle, resulting in damage to public service.”

CSIF finds it “alarming” that police officers are penalized “for tarnishing the Corps’ image, while the administration itself does so on this occasion, contradicting the principle of leading by example.”

Consequently, the union demands the immediate removal of these anagrams and holds those responsible for degrading the Police Corps’ image accountable.
