The registration period for municipal nursery schools in the 2024-2025 school year is now open, as announced by the La Laguna City Council through the Department of Social Welfare. La Laguna is home to seven public early childhood centers, catering to children up to three years old, providing nearly 300 available spots across facilities including La Verdellada, Padre Anchieta, La Cuesta, Laurisilva, San Matías, Pérez Soto, and Guamasa.

María Cruz, the Councilor for Social Welfare, emphasizes the essential role these centers play in early education, particularly in supporting children and families in precarious situations and those with specific socio-economic needs through municipal Social Services. The aim is to aid family units in both protection and educational responsibilities.

The facilities cater to families requiring financial assistance for the education and care of children aged 4 months to 3 years. This may be due to low family income, the necessity for child care while guardians are working, studying, or seeking employment, or facing social challenges and vulnerabilities that impact their ability to fulfill parental duties.

The deadline for applications for the 2024/2025 school year, both for new admissions and renewals for existing students, is March 31. Full information and documentation are available at the Municipal Nursery Schools and respective Social Work Units (UTS) in the area, as well as on the City Council website at the following link.

Early Childhood Education focuses on the holistic development of children during the formative years. This phase shapes the habits, skills, knowledge, and abilities that will be refined in subsequent stages of a child’s life, as outlined in Law 6/2014 of July 25, Canary Islands on Non-University Education, although it is not mandatory.
