On Friday, the town of Candelaria will be hosting a series of events honoring the tradition and devotion of the Canarian people to the Guardian of the Canary Islands, within the festivities commemorating the Solemnity of Our Lady of Candelaria.
The day will kick off with the celebration of the Eucharist at 8:00 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. The civic procession and the transfer of the town’s banner will then take place at 11:30 a.m., starting from the Town Hall to the Basilica. The Las Candelas Music Band and representatives of the Local Police of Santa Cruz and Candelaria will be participating.
At 12:00 p.m., a Solemn Eucharist presided over by Monsignor Bernardo Álvarez, bishop of the Nivariense Diocese, and sung by the Orfeón La Paz of La Laguna, will be broadcast live on Mírame Televisión. This will be followed by the procession of the image of the Virgin of Candelaria around the Plaza de la Patrona de Canarias, accompanied by a shower of fliers.
The day will continue with the Tafuriaste Cultural Association offering drumbeats and presenting respects to the Virgin at 4:45 p.m., followed by the Holy Rosary at 5:15 p.m. Finally, at 6:00 p.m., a special Eucharist will be celebrated with the presentation of the boys and girls to La Morenita.
