The agreement was finalized during the meeting held last week between the mayor of the municipality, Juan Antonio García Abreu (PSOE), and the general director of Tourism Infrastructure of the regional government, Fernando Miñarro. The regional manager announced that they are going to allocate 400,000 euros to the project, an amount that will be added to the 170,000 euros that the Victorian City Council will contribute.

The forecast is that before the end of the year this budget will be available to put out to tender the works in early 2022. Juan Antonio Garcia celebrates the good news: “At last the green light is given to this long-awaited project that has been entrenched for years despite its importance for our municipality, since it not only involves the rehabilitation of this important element of our historical heritage, but also because It also enables La Victoria to have its first accommodation beds“.

Abreu wanted to thank the good understanding between the City Council and the Ministry of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands, who presides Yaiza Castilla, to make this project go ahead after years of waiting. The Deán Calzadilla’s house, which is located next to the hermitage in the San Juan neighborhood, is a Canarian construction dating from the 18th century. It was the family residence of Don Nicolás de Calzadilla, who was born in La Victoria de Acentejo and was dean of the Santa Iglesia Catedral de Canarias and, therefore, one of the most illustrious citizens of the municipality.

It is a building of 500 square meters of surface divided into two floors that have a central corridor that houses rooms on both sides. Likewise, it has ethnographic elements and outdoor spaces such as patios, gardens, rooftops, a cistern and an era, among others, which together have a surface area of 1,100 square meters.

“This impulse to the project is also essential so that the start of the rehabilitation works of this old building with more than three centuries of history and it is possible to stop the deterioration of having it closed “, concludes the mayor.
