The Renowned Hairdresser Juan Castañeda: Creating Stunning Hairstyles for Celebrities like Joana Sanz, Carla Barber, and Ariadne Artiles

Juan Castañeda, an exceptional Canarian hairstylist, has established himself in the fashion and beauty industry as the favored stylist for celebrities such as Joana Sanz, Carla Barber, and Ariadne Artiles. With a career of over 30 years, this professional from El Hierro, residing in Tenerife, shares the story of his passion for fashion since his childhood on the island of El Hierro in this interview.

Journey

“I ventured into the world of hairstyling and makeup over 30 years ago due to my enduring fascination with fashion and styling. Ever since I was young, on the island of El Hierro where I was born, I absorbed every publication within my reach, and I fondly recall playing with curlers. The scent of a perm evokes childhood memories for me.”

Home

“Santa Cruz de Tenerife is now my home, that’s how deeply I feel about it. I owe my personal growth to Santa Cruz, where the Juan Castañeda brand has flourished.”

Passion

“When collaborating with other professionals, I always emphasize the importance of taking pride in our profession. We bring joy to people because a mere touch of color or a haircut change can uplift their spirits. Values. One of the key priorities in my life is friendship. I have a few, but they are invaluable, and I strive to reciprocate the care they show me. They are essential individuals with whom I share myriad experiences.”

Clientele

“Many of my clients are also friends, such as the designers Aurelia Gil and Carmen González, or the model Ariadne Artiles. “If they summon me, I’d drop everything.”

Canary Islands

“The Canary Islands have always been a splendid location for photoshoots and filming. Currently, they have gained global recognition. Despite that, I yearn for a larger representation of Canarian talent because, regardless of opinions, there are exceptional professionals here in various domains, not just in hair and makeup.”

Literature

“I’m not particularly into books, but I take pleasure in perusing magazines and traditional print media. I’m not very digital, although I acknowledge its significance as a tool that has simplified numerous aspects.”

Travel

“Undoubtedly, Venezuela. If given the chance, I’d depart immediately. It’s a country that captivates me and exudes tremendous energy. The people, landscapes, and pace of life there enthuse me.”

Cuisine

“I’m a hearty eater and enjoy a diverse range of cuisines. I appreciate everything from blanched gofio to innovative gastronomy. However, if I had to pick a single dish, it would be authentic Valencian paella, not just any rice dish served in some places.”

Television

“If I had to select a TV series, it would be Sex and the City, as it indelibly left its mark on an entire era.”

Pets

“My two dogs, Camila and Casilda, two black-haired dachshunds, are another one of my joys. I invest considerable time in caring for them.”

Future

“I take delight in the company of young people because they exude boundless energy. They are indispensable in envisioning the future, and I desire that those residing here no longer feel compelled to leave the Islands to pursue promising careers in any field, a predicament encountered by previous generations.”
