SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, January 28. (EUROPA PRESS) –

On the occasion of the ‘route for equality’ initiated by the PP, Irene Montero, the former Minister of Equality and Secretary of Political Action of Podemos, questioned whether the popular people prefer that Parliament or the “reactionary sectors of the Power of attorney” rule in Spain.

The question was posed during an event in Santa Cruz de Tenerife to present her candidacy for the elections to the European Parliament, alongside Noemí Santana and Javier Bermúdez, candidates to lead Podemos Canarias in the primaries.

Montero emphasized the ongoing “open war” waged by reactionary sectors of the Judiciary in Spain, “who, without standing in the elections, are asking all of us Spaniards ‘who’s in charge here’.”

“Today the PP – she continued – has announced the start of a ‘route for equality’ and I believe it must address a fundamentally democratic question. Do you believe it is acceptable for reactionary sectors of the Judiciary to question the authority of the Spaniards, ‘Who rules more, the elected deputies in Parliament who have the power to make laws, or those who do not stand for election but seek to govern more than the Legislative Branch?'”

Montero stressed that any democrat would assert that in Spain, Parliament determines laws and governance.

“I am curious to hear the PP’s response. It appears to me that they favor a wholly undemocratic system in which the reactionary sectors of the Judiciary can exert more control than the Spanish Parliament itself. It appears to me that this is transpiring and what they seek to uphold,” she concluded.
