The traditional stew of La Florida, in La Orotava, is about to begin and once again will bring together numerous neighbors to celebrate the popular district festivals, recognized as Tourist Attractions in the Canary Islands, held in tribute to San Antonio Abad and the Virgin of La Esperanza.
The celebration of the La Florida stew in 2024 will take place in the area in front of the La Florida soccer field. While the space is larger, it is recommended to use the bus to avoid traffic and parking issues. For this purpose, Titsa has increased services for lines 345 and 373.
The making of the traditional stew requires approximately 70 large cauldrons made of stainless steel, with a total weight surpassing 125 kilos each. The ingredients exceed 4,000 kilos, following the traditional recipe but in greater quantities. Among others, the stew will contain over 600 cabbages, 75 kilos of pineapples, 700 kilos of potatoes, 60 kilos of sweet potatoes, more than 1,300 kilos of pumpkin, over 1,000 kilos of chayotas, 90 kilos of chickpeas, 70 kilos of beans and carrots, nearly 1,000 kilos of bacon and ribs, 60 kilos of leeks, 25 kilos of garlic, 100 kilos of onion, 45 kilos of parsley, 75 kilos of bubangos, and 250 kilograms of gofio. These are local products cultivated by the local residents. The stew is cooked over low heat using dried broom from the Teide National Park and takes a minimum of two hours to prepare. The event will also feature entertainment from the Tres Quintos and El Golpito groups.
