SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, January 26. (EUROPA PRESS) –
In the early hours of Friday, two Maritime Rescue vessels carried out the rescue of 79 sub-Saharan migrants who were navigating in two canoes in the waters south of Tenerife, as reported by sources from the state agency to Europa Press.
Salvamar Menkalinan rescued one of the canoes with 42 individuals, including eleven minors, approximately eight miles west of Los Cristianos. The canoe was initially sighted by a Fred.Olsen ship traveling the Tenerife-La Gomera route. The rescued individuals were disembarked at the Playa San Juan dock in the municipality of Guía de Isora due to adverse sea conditions along the Arona coast. The canoe was towed by a Civil Guard patrol boat after its engine failed.
The other canoe, carrying 37 people, was spotted from land and accompanied to the port of Los Cristianos by Salvamar Alpheratz.
Following medical attention at the dock, their general state of health was confirmed to be good.
