The Las Gaviotas beach in the Tenerife capital is set to have an allocated area for dogs all year round, making it the first in the municipality to permit dog entry. This was announced by Carlos Tarife, the Councilor for Public Services of the Santa Cruz de Tenerife City Council. He revealed that 20,000 euros from the area’s 2024 budget will be dedicated to conducting a feasibility study for the development of this new dog beach, which will be part of the Tenerife and the Sea project.

The Councilor stated that the Public Services and Environmental Sustainability area will receive a budget of over 65 million euros by 2024, which will be distributed for various projects in the city. These projects include creating squares, playgrounds, installing escalators in neighborhoods, and initiating the cycle network work in the city center, with an investment of 147,000 euros from the Next Generation funds.

Regarding investments, Tarife explained, “One of the initiatives will focus on renovating the children’s area in La Granja Park, transforming it into a small mountain, similar to La Hoya Park in La Gallega, providing a new play area for children in the capital.” A budget of 100,000 euros has been allocated for this project, in addition to the planned one million euros for regenerating the green space of this urban leisure area.

Moreover, the mayor highlighted that “more than one million euros will be earmarked for the six playgrounds in the municipality, with a significant portion allocated for renovating the playground in García Sanabria, amounting to 250,000 euros.”

Another significant action will center around the future Plaza Celia Cruz, situated between the Cabo Llanos Towers, with an investment of 100,000 euros. This also includes drafting the underground project for Reyes Católicos, Pérez Armas, and Belgium avenues on the corner of San Sebastián Street, with an investment of 100,000 euros.

Tarife mentioned another pivotal focus on implementing a project to install escalators in Valleseco or María Jiménez, as well as allocating 10,000 euros for the maintenance of the two automatic ramps located in the Santos ravine.

Renewing the public waste bins across the city will have a budget of 7,200 euros, along with street furniture maintenance costing 900,000 euros. The furniture planning will involve replacing the bollards in the central area (100,000 euros), changing the semi-automatic folding bollards on Calle del Castillo and Parque García Sanabria, renewing the Las Teresitas walkways (280,000 euros), and fencing the gardens in Residencial Anaga (30,000 euros).

Additionally, 5,000 luminaires will be replaced with LED lights, together with lighting adaptation and fountain adaptation, requiring an investment of 4.5 million euros. Public road paving will receive 1.8 million euros, and charging points for electric buses will be installed at 820,000 euros. The Councilor also mentioned other initiatives focused on renaturalization in Las Mesas Park (112,000 euros), accessibility at pedestrian crossings in Las Teresitas (195,000 euros), the installation of floating platforms on the coast (103,000 euros), and the establishment of an energy community (315,000 euros).
