SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, January 25. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The wind alert on the island of El Hierro has been terminated by the General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands. This comes after two days of southeast winds in the extreme northeast, El Golfo valley, high areas, and peaks, with gusts reaching speeds of up to 90 km/h.
Although the wind alert has been lifted, the Canary Islands are still in a pre-alert situation due to the risk of forest fires. This marks the first occurrence of such a situation in the month of January. Additionally, there is currently an intense haze episode, which is expected to reduce visibility and increase the sky’s turbidity.
Consequently, from this past Tuesday, the concentrations of PM10 particles are anticipated to surpass 150-250 micrograms per cubic meter in much of the archipelago, with occasional peaks exceeding 400 micrograms.
