As the Carnival of Santa Cruz de Tenerife approaches, one unmistakable sign is the fencing off of certain areas in the capital to safeguard them from the influx of thousands of revelers who will congregate in different parts of the city to partake in the lively chicharrera festivities.

Among the focal points is Weyler Square, which will be enclosed by a larger barrier than usual this year. This is to safeguard the ongoing rehabilitation work on the fountain and the kiosk. Consequently, accessing the square will be more challenging this year.

The street festivities in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will kick off on Friday, February 9, after the inaugural parade, commencing at 8:00 p.m. from Plaza de la República Dominicana. The burial of the sardine will take place on Wednesday, February 14, coinciding with Valentine’s Day, and the subsequent weekend will witness the Piñata celebration.
