SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct 31 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The 24-hour monitoring volcanic surveillance network of the National Geographic Institute (IGN) has once again registered this Sunday on the island of La Palma an earthquake of magnitude 5.0 (mbLg), so for the second time in just 24 hours it was it once again reaches the ceiling of the magnitude of the entire seismic series that began on September 11.

The earthquake occurred at 5:52 p.m. to the southwest of the municipality of Villa de Mazo, 38 kilometers deep and was felt with intensity IV on the EMS scale in numerous centers not only on the island of La Palma, but also on Tenerife and La Slingshot.

Specifically, the earthquake has been felt in Los Llanos de Aridane, Santa Cruz de La Palma, El Paso, Breña Alta, Puntagorda, Breña Baja, Puntallana, San Andrés y Sauces, Villa de Mazo, Tazacorte, Tijarafe, Garafía, Barlovento and Fuencaliente, on La Palma; San Cristóbal de La Laguna, Buenavista del Norte, Los Realejos, Puerto de la Cruz, Güímar, Santiago del Teide, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Icod de los Vinos, Tacoronte and Santa Úrsula, in Tenerife; and in Hermigua, Valle Gran Rey and San Sebastián, on La Gomera.

This new earthquake of magnitude 5.0 occurs at a time when a decrease in the number and magnitude of earthquakes has been observed in the last 24 hours both at depths greater than 20 km and between 10 and 15 km; furthermore, no felt seismic activity had been recorded.

Since last midnight, about 90 earthquakes have been registered on the island of La Palma, of which 20 have exceeded magnitude 3.0. Of all of them, three earthquakes with intensities that have oscillated between II and IV on the EMS scale have been felt.
