The Noble Hall of the Cabildo of Tenerife hosted the AgroJoven 2024 awards ceremony, with the presence of the president, Rosa Dávila, and the counselor of the Primary Sector, Valentín González Évora, with the beekeeper being Adasat Peña Dorta, with Mieles de Abona, in Arico , the great winner.

The AgroJoven awards are a recognition that, since 2011, the Cabildo of Tenerife has given to business projects linked to the rural environment of the Island, that are promoted by young people and that are related to agricultural or livestock activity on the island.

During the event, the president valued young people as “the driving force of innovation and sustainability in agriculture”, since “with their energy and creativity they are resources that we must recognize and promote to guarantee the maintenance of the sector.”

The objective of this initiative focuses on promoting generational change and the incorporation of new profiles into the agricultural sector.

The Minister of the Primary Sector, Valentín González, also stated that, “with this event, we intend to recognize the initiative, effort and work of the young people who join this economic sector.”

The awards

The awarded projects in this edition are the following: first prize for business initiative (5,000 euros) Mieles de Abona (Adasat Peña Dorta). The main activity of the company is the production and marketing of selected high-quality honey, using transhumant management of the hives; the second prize for the business initiative Finca Las Abiertas (Diego Ernesto de la Rosa Falcón), an agricultural company dedicated mainly to the cultivation of potatoes, and in a complementary way to wheat, and the third prize for the business initiative Laying poultry farm with ecological management (Elia González Sánchez). Awards were also given to the Business Idea for the comprehensive cassava processor in the Canary Islands (Andrea Padrón Arias) and to the Ágave Spirits Distillery (Enrique de la Rosa García).
