SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Minister of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, Poli Suárez (PP), has called this Tuesday the reinforcement plan in mathematics and reading comprehension endowed with 500 million and announced last weekend by President Pedro Sánchez as a “smoke bomb”. .
In a statement released by the Ministry he has indicated that the budget is “insufficient” and at the same time, he has criticized that the autonomous communities have “zero information” given that this type of programs must be proposed at the sectoral Education conference and with greater ” concretion”.
However, Suárez has pointed out that the Canary Islands already outlined the improvement of reading comprehension and mathematics skills in the Work Plan of the Educational Inspection of the Autonomous Community in the next school year 2024-2025 last November due to the “shortcomings” revealed by various reports.
For this reason, he has pointed out that these two competencies will be “priority objectives” of this work plan that is based on seven axes around teacher training, advice and supervision by the educational inspection of the centers and the improvement of the teaching conditions.
He has also pointed out that it is complemented by other programs of his department such as ‘Estela’ or ‘Proa Plus’ and that it must also work “hand in hand” with families, AMPAs and Canarian universities.
For this reason, Suárez asks the central government to “focus” on the model already designed by the Canary Islands in order to “improve” the data from the latest Pisa Report.
The plan incorporates strategies that allow improving the plans of
linguistic communication, with the purpose of highlighting the importance of reading and turning it into a habit of life for students and will also place emphasis on advice for the development of
competencies in mathematics and science through problem solving, promoting in students the ability to make mental representations of events or situations and produce a
mathematical or technological structure that allows its resolution to be achieved.
