The traditional festival of choreographic groups, this year a competition for the first time in its history, has grown over the years to become one of the events most supported by the public. Although it has been rewarding the groups’ presentation for some years, this year it has gone one step further and has had awards in Interpretation. Thus, LS Tribu can boast of having won the first Carnival Choreographic Groups competition held in Santa Cruz, both in Interpretation and Presentation, and which took place yesterday at the Fairgrounds.
His staging, his common thread and the perfection of his choreography allowed him to win the highest Interpretation award. Second place went to Yu-Funk Danceschool for its impeccable execution of its urban dance choreography, and third and second place went to Loli Pérez and Ballet Dance, respectively.
In Presentation, as said, LS Tribu also achieved the highest award, the second went to Los Bohemios and the third and second place went to Loli Pérez and Azahar, respectively.
A contest in which the costumes are more elaborate and original each year, as are the musical selection and choreographies presented by the nineteen participating groups which, in order of performance, were Moana, Yu-Funk Danceschool, Onys Escuela de Baile, Azahar, Star Dance, Ballet Dance, Odali, Luther King San Miguel, CD Andreína Acosta, Ibaute, Wild Dance, Loli Pérez, LS Tribu, Crazy Dancer, Mi Escuela de Baile Los Realejos, Crew Of Dreams, Patronato Cultural Arona, FunkyGuchi and The Bohemians.
The show, which began at 5:00 p.m. and lasted until 10:00 p.m., featured three spectacular masters of ceremony: Puchi Méndez, Víctor Brito and Luz Martín, who were in charge of entertaining the audience and setting the pace of the evening, which was hindered by the various television advertising breaks: at home they watched advertisements while at the Fairgrounds – practically full with about 4,500 people – they had to content themselves with reviewing the details of the exquisite set design by Nareme Melián.
The family atmosphere that was experienced at the Fairgrounds was magical. The desire and enthusiasm of the more than 1,000 participating dancers, the support and applause of all fans of all groups, the variety of musical and dance styles, the color and creativity of their fantasies and the stage – to which They incorporated lights that outlined the main elements of the front – they made the meeting a 100% carnival moment.
Although the initiative to turn the festival into a competition came from the choreographic groups themselves, the truth is that Fiestas should reformulate the format for future editions, since it makes no sense to value professional dance academies, amateur groups and dance groups equally. school dance, as well as the fact that flamenco dance, rhythmic gymnastics, Latin dance or modern dance groups compete with each other.
Even so, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival 2024 can be proud of having held its first contest of this modality, which has undoubtedly been revitalized over time in every sense.
