The Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) publishes in today’s edition the final approval of the Mobility ordinance of the Santa Cruz City Council, which will therefore come into force in 15 days, “a set of criteria that seeks to regulate the use of personal mobility vehicles, the use of public space, both road and pedestrian; the implementation of a new mobility model in the city and the mechanisms that improve the quality of life in the municipality, all under the premise of making Santa Cruz de Tenerife a city that is friendly to its pedestrians, accessible and safe,” the mayor advances. , José Manuel Bermúdez.

The capital councilor highlights that “the document was approved last December 21 in the Plenary and obtained the majority of the votes of the councilors and responds to the need to overcome an ordinance that was from 1985” and that the Councilor for the area, Evelyn Alonso, details that “in reality it was a traffic ordinance that, currently, was only partially in force, precisely as a consequence of the modal and regulatory changes that have occurred after its approval at that time. already a distant year.”

“Based on the participation in the period of allegations – adds Alonso – a total of 114 were presented, to which two considerations from the Provincial Traffic Directorate were added” and he argues that “in a specific document all the allegations were analyzed, justifying the adoption of the same, totally, partially or, where appropriate, rejecting, in summary, of the 114 allegations presented, 41 were accepted, with 73 considered as not appropriate” and concludes by stating that “a total of 33 articles were modified.”

In this way, “there was a document that establishes 7 titles that develop 134 articles, two transitional provisions, one repealing provision, three final provisions and an annex related to the centers of activity for the purposes of regulating the basic conditions of issuance and use of the parking card for people with disabilities,” adds the Councilor for Mobility and Universal Accessibility.

“This new ordinance – the councilor advances – aims, in addition to adapting to the new current legal framework and the organization of the new emerging realities of individual mobility, to guide and develop concepts, traffic calming elements and principles not included in the regulations. state and that are intended to be applied in the process of urban transformation and mobility in this city” and maintains that “in short, it is about prioritizing, as the European and national legal framework now requires, non-motorized forms of travel , more sustainable and friendly to pedestrians.”

The new ordinance contains the titles 1) Set of traffic and road safety regulations; 2) Road planning, including articles referring to reserved lanes, regulation of the Urban Zone and modal coexistence roads; 3) Pedestrian mobility, with articles aimed precisely at the most vulnerable road users; 4) Regulation of the circulation of bicycles and other vehicles, including those for personal mobility; 5) Stop and parking regime in the city; 6) Regulation of road reservations and other limitations, and 7) Road discipline, regime of infractions and sanctions.
