SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, January 16 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Council of Ministers approved this Tuesday an agreement that confirms, as established by the Public Sector Contracts Law, the declaration of emergency for the destruction, loading, transport and management of waste from boats of immigrants in an irregular situation. intercepted in the Canary Islands that will be entrusted to the public company Tragsa for an amount of 5,278,000 euros.

In recent years, the arrival and accumulation of vessels dedicated to irregular immigration has been recorded in the archipelago and in many cases, this accumulation hinders the transit of ships in the ports of the islands, preventing the normal development of their activity and with a serious danger for entry and exit, the Government reports in a note.

For this reason, the Executive points out that “it is urgent” the need to undertake the dismantling of the accumulated vessels and, in turn, transfer all the resulting materials to an authorized waste manager.

The diversity of materials that make up these boats, mainly fiberglass, also requires the adoption of different collection and transportation processes by the authorized waste management center.

Thus, the following activities will be carried out: identification, selection and classification of vessels to be destroyed; lifting, pre-destruction, loading and unloading; transport to the authorized waste manager and delivery of the waste to the management center for destruction.
