SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, January 15. (EUROPA PRESS) –
The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has decreed an alert situation on the islands of Tenerife and La Palma due to winds while the rest of the autonomous community remains on pre-alert status.
According to the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet), a southerly component wind is expected, turning to the west and in the midlands and summits it will have a strong impact from the southwest, turning to the west.
Thus, southwesterly gusts are expected to reach and exceed 90 km/h on the peaks and northern, eastern and northwest slopes of La Palma, as well as the peaks and high areas and midlands of the north and southeast of Tenerife, where they can be reached and locally exceed 100 km/h.
On summits and northern slopes of La Gomera and El Hierro there will be southwest gusts of 80 km/h while, especially on summits and northeast and eastern slopes of Gran Canaria, southwest gusts of 70 km/h will be recorded.
Also in the west and north of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote there will be wind from the south to southwest with gusts that will reach 60 km/h.
