A total of 190 migrants have arrived since the early hours of this Saturday Gran Canaria and Tenerife aboard three cayucos, one of them sighted by the cruise ship ‘Mein Schiff’ when it was sailing between the two islands of the capital, sources from Maritime Rescue.

The first of these vessels was located by the echo of the SIVE of the Civil Guard when it was sailing 14 miles from Maspalomas, south of Gran Canaria, and the Regional Maritime Rescue Coordination Center mobilized the Salvamar Macondo, which located the cayuco towards 00:35 Canary Islands hours.

There were 32 people on the barge, all men of sub-Saharan origin, who disembarked at the port of Arguineguín at 1:43 a.m. and, after their assessment, one of the occupants of the cayuco was referred to a health center, according to reports. informed Red Cross.

Likewise, the two Maritime Rescue Coordination centers in the Canary Islands intervened in the relief operation that was carried out after receiving a warning from the cruise ship ‘Mein Schiff’, which at 9:12 p.m. on Friday sighted a canoe when it was sailing in the waters of the canal between Tenerife and Gran Canaria.

For the operation, the Guardamar Urania and the Helimer 204 helicopter were mobilized, which carried out the rescue of the boat at 11:30 p.m. when it was 28 kilometers west of Agaete, in Gran Canaria, accompanied by the ‘Mein Schiff’ .

The occupants of the cayuco were transferred to the Los Llanos dock in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, where they disembarked at 1:25 a.m. this Saturday, Maritime Rescue sources have stated.

There were 64 men of sub-Saharan origin on the boat and, as reported by the Emergency and Rescue Coordination Center 112, one of them received assistance in the port of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and four others were taken to the hospital.

In addition, the Civil Guard’s SIVE echo has detected another vessel 8.6 miles south of Punta Rasca in Tenerife, where the Salvamar Alpheratz has headed, which has located and escorted the cayuco to the port of Los Cristianos.

The boat arrived at the aforementioned port at 8:05 a.m. this Saturday and 94 people (86 men, 3 women and 5 male minors) of sub-Saharan origin disembarked, according to Maritime Rescue.
