Two flights to the Canary Islands diverted due to bad weather in Madeira

He bad weather in Madeira (Portugal) by the presence of the storm Hipólito has forced divert two flights to the Canary Islands this Friday that they planned to land on that island. This was reported on X (formerly Twitter) by the air traffic controllers account @controladores.

These are two planes from the Jet 2 company that were scheduled to land in Madeira, but finally landed in the Canary Islands. One of them has been diverted to the César Manrique airport.Lanzarote coming from London, and the other from Tenerife South, who had left Manchester due to “bad weather adverse fate”.

Hipólito has been affecting the Azores archipelago since yesterday, with winds of up to 110 kilometers per hour and waves up to 7 meters high. This phenomenon is being noticed with rains in mainland Portugal and in Madeira, especially, starting this weekend.

Pre-alert for coastal phenomena

He Government of the Canary Islandsthrough the General Directorate of Emergencies, has declared the pre-alert situation for coastal phenomena in the Canary Islands, starting at 6:00 a.m. this Friday, January 12.

This decision is made taking into account the information available and in application of the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands for Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).

The pre-alert extends to the entire autonomous community of the Canary Islands due to bad state of the sea. Combined sea waves from the west and/or northwest of 2 to 4 meters high, mainly due to the swell.

The biggest waves will reach the northern and western coasts of The Palm and The ironalthough it will also affect the coasts of La Gomeranorth of Tenerifenorth and southwest of Gran Canariaas well as the north and west of the islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
