The owner of the premises where the Dubai room is located, located in the Polígono El Mayorazgo, went to the Local Police on December 23 to file a complaint in which he warned of excess capacity at the Christmas Eve party organized by Univerzzo in said establishment, currently in the hands of a tenant.
An event that in the early hours of the 25th had to be evacuated by the Local Police and the National Police after the avalanche of people who could not access or leave the establishment, causing anxiety attacks and fainting inside a space planned for 150 people and for which, finally, 1,500 seats were sold.
The Councilor for Urban Planning, Zaida González, confirmed this information yesterday in the control commission of the capital City Council, following an appearance requested by the socialist Florentino Guzmán, in which he asked that the events that occurred at said party be explained.
González reported that on December 15, 2023, a prior communication of the start of activity in a location for less than 150 people was presented to the Urban Planning Management. Once the file was started, on the 23rd the owner of the property where the Dubai room is located appeared at the Local Police station to indicate his knowledge that a party was going to take place in the early hours of the 25th and with a large number. of attendees, facts that he transfers in order to be exempt from any type of civil and criminal liability.
The councilor indicated that the agents went to the premises on the 24th, hours before the party, and “there was an inconsistency between the tenant, who stated that it was for 150 people, and the promoter of the event, who reported that it was for 950. ”.
González added that, with these data, “Urban Planning could not cancel a communication without the incident having occurred, which was confirmed in the early hours of December 25 after the police reports, which indicated that held a massive party without a qualifying title in the Dubai room.”
After the police report, on the 26th an order is issued that annuls the prior communication of the license by the tenant, who is given 15 days to present the documentation. On the 27th, a disciplinary notice is issued for the non-compliance that occurred at the party and in the premises, due to the lack of security measures, and on the 28th, the penalty of 30,000 euros is increased, which continues its course, as well as the closure of the local. In this sense, González said that if the documentation is processed within the deadline and the premises comply with the regulations, “it could reopen its doors.”
For his part, the socialist Florentino Guzmán denounced that the City Council did not act sooner, “despite the fact that the Local Police had knowledge of what was going to happen, allowing the capacity of the room to be tripled by 10. “They could have acted and they didn’t.”
In this regard, the Urban Planning councilor reiterated that “neither the technicians nor the Police can intervene or cease an activity until non-compliance is detected. This is how we acted, once the facts were verified. The Police evacuated the premises and suspended the party and, from Urban Planning, the activity in this property was ceased and the sanctioning file was initiated.” Meanwhile, the Vox group, which also added its request for an appearance on this matter to that raised by the PSOE, also demanded “more control so that these situations are not repeated,” said Luis de los Reyes, who recalled that “what happened “That night could have ended in tragedy.”
Scooters
In another order, the City Council commission addressed the issue of rental scooters, following an appearance requested by the PSOE spokesperson, Patricia Hernández, who denounced that the Linux company, in charge of this management until declaring bankruptcy, “has left more than 800 vehicles on the streets and, in addition, has saved paying 20,000 euros a year because he was not required to pay the fee for using the public domain.”
The mayor of Mobility, Evelyn Alonso, clarified that “it could not be charged because it was not regulated, as will happen now” and recalled that two new licenses will soon be granted to manage the rental “with requirements.” While she locates a Linux representative to cover the costs, she pointed out that the scooters removed by the Police are being deposited next to the Palmetum.
