The budget comes into force with 120 million to execute this year

He The plenary session of the Arona City Council definitively approved this Wednesday with the favorable vote of CC, PP and Más por Arona, forces that form the Government Group, the 2024 budget after compliance with the legal deadlines for the presentation of allegations and amendments. Specifically, there were eight appeals and only one was partially approved. The accounts, which will come into force from their publication in the Official Gazette of the Province (BOP) scheduled for this Thursday, increase by 11.83%, reaching 119,701,793 euros, This translates into an increase of 12,662,597 compared to 2020. It is the year to analyze to carry out the comparison because, according to sources from the southern Consistory, “it has been extended for three years with the same amount, not one euro more nor one less”.

This budget, the largest in the history of the municipality of Arona, becomes a reality without increasing the fiscal pressure of the neighbors, in addition to collecting the bases of a planned expense that constitutes the foundation of the action of the Government Group Mandate Plan for the period 2024-2027.

The municipal accounts had already received the support of the government group in the plenary session on November 30, 2023 and yesterday the vote took place that puts an end to the process. They were approved with 14 favorable votes from PP, CC and MxA; five against PSOE –he values them as “out of square” due to the increase in the number of advisors– and the abstention of the two Vox councilors. The entry into force of the Budget will occur once it is published in the BOP.

Management. Fátima Lemes, mayor of Arona, stated that “the final approval of these budgets not only represents the fulfillment of one of the planning and management objectives of this government, but also a demonstration with facts of the commitment to responsibly carry out what is not possible.” had achieved in recent years. For all this, she added, “I very much regret the attitude of trying to overthrow them by the PSOE with the presentation of their claims to stop what the municipality has needed for years.” Lemes reflected: “This shows that in the end they are the ones who seek to paralyze and block the proper functioning of this City Council and our municipality.” The councilor concluded: “These budgets will be the beginning that marks the path of stabilization until improving the standard of living and activity in Arona.”

Paralysis. These budgets are “priority” for the government group given that “Arona suffered the last three years from the paralysis and retraction of its economic and administrative management, derived from the extension.” The 2024 mandate is the first of the new 2023-2027 mandate and establishes the bases and lines of action of the municipal executive in order to achieve the goals set for the next four years.

Tight. Guacimara Tavío, Aronero Councilor for Economy and Finance, highlighted that “after three consecutive years of extension, the objective of the government group was clear: to start 2024 with an updated budget, adjusted to the reality of the municipality and the moment in which we we find”. She stressed that “from the first day of this new corporation, this department dedicated all its efforts to make the 2024 budget become a reality.” She recalled that “these accounts are the result of five months of tireless work, not only by the government group, but by all civil servants and labor personnel, workers who have participated in one way or another in their preparation.” For all this, she pointed out that “today we can say that Arona has a Budget for 2024 despite the obstacles suffered by the opposition, specifically the Socialist Group.” She listed in this sense that “they presented numerous allegations, without any legal basis, with the sole objective of stopping and delaying the entry into force as much as possible.” Guacimara Tavío also explained that “this is an important milestone for the municipality, as it lays the foundations for the action and achievement of the objectives set in the Mandate Plan 2023-2027, our roadmap, to record and express “the commitment and responsibility that this Government Group assumes with Arona.”

Clue. Budgets constitute a key document as a planning element, whose priority is to strengthen administration and public services. They represent a necessary and inexcusable step to be able, subsequently, to achieve the set objectives. It represents a key tool for public management, programming, control, monitoring and evaluation of municipal actions. This is the general sense and also the one that has marked the path in Arona.

Axes. In the Arona City Council, these previous keys translate into the allocation of municipal resources to different policies. This distribution obeys a logic of priorities aimed at achieving the objectives defined in the 2023-2027 Mandate Plan of the current municipal government team. This framework document is articulated in a scenario around four main axes: Citizenship, An Arona to live; Territory, For a Sustainable Arona; Economic Promotion, For an Arona to enjoy, invest and work, and Municipal Management, For an efficient, accessible and innovative City Council.
