The General Commission of Councils of the Parliament of the Canary Islands meets this Thursday, starting at 11:30 a.m., to continue with the processing of the decree law of the Government of the Canary Islands on measures in territorial and urban matters for the economic and social recovery of the island of La Palma after the volcanic eruption of September 2021.
The president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, who is also in charge of the presidency of this commission in which representatives of all the parliamentary groups and the seven island councils participate, highlighted in a note that “this is not just another decree “since it is the standard that will make possible the construction or rehabilitation of buildings, uses and activities that existed before September 19, 2021 “in places that today are buried by lava.”
“Wherever it is safe and viable, the inhabitants of La Palma could begin to recover the life, property and activities that the volcano took from them,” he says.
The General Commission of Island Councils is the body through which the councils, as governments of each island, participate in the Parliament of the Canary Islands, and has advisory and informative functions.
The processing of the decree of measures on territorial and urban matters for the economic and social recovery of the island of La Palma after the volcanic eruption of Cumbre Vieja will continue in the extraordinary plenary session scheduled for next Wednesday, January 17.
