The agents and units of the Local Police of La Laguna have carried out a round of inspections in different bazaars and sales outlets in the municipality to seize and remove from the market products that could contain substances harmful to health and that are prohibited by the European Union.

The mayor of La Laguna, Luis Yeray Gutiérrez, explained that so far actions have been carried out in a dozen commercial establishments, in which nearly 900 products in the form of perfumes and pyrotechnic material with this type of substances toxic to the environment have been confiscated. population.

The European Union catalogs the compound Butylphenyl Methylpropional (Lilial) as a CMR substance, as it may cause carcinogenic, mutagenic or reproductive toxic effects. This element is what has been registered in some seized cosmetic products.

For her part, the Councilor for Citizen Security of La Laguna, Cristina Ledesma, explained that a total of ten minutes and reports related to these inspections have been drawn up and announced that this work plan will continue in the coming weeks in different neighborhoods and centers of the municipality. Once the material has been analyzed, it will be destroyed or returned to the establishments, if it complies with European regulations.

“This first phase of inspections has coincided with the Christmas holiday period, in which purchases of these products increase,” explained the mayor, who also recalled that there is a regulation that prohibits the sale of pyrotechnic material to minors, an aspect in which has also been influenced during the development of these actions.
