They report the death of a woman in the Canary Islands after a fall during a medical transfer to her home

He Patient Advocate has been addressed to Santa Cruz Prosecutor’s Office Tenerife to inform you of the death of an elderly woman with reduced mobility after suffering a fall days before during an ambulance transfer to her home after being discharged from the hospital. La Candelaria hospital.

According to the daughter’s account of the events, the woman was taken by ambulance to her home on the morning of December 27 after receiving a medical discharge.

When they took her out of the ambulance, the transporters placed her in a chair but did not tie her, and when they were taking her up the stairs of her porch, she fell. They picked her up, placed her back in the chair and left her at her home without reporting the incident to the ambulance chief or the emergency service, according to her daughter’s story.

After an hour, a family member realized that she had the knees inflamed and she began to feel drowsy, so she called the emergency service requesting an emergency doctor, who examined her and determined, together with the assistance of a doctor over the phone, that she needed to be transferred to the emergency room.

Once he arrived at the hospital and after performing various tests, it was determined that he suffered from a distal femur fracture, respiratory deterioration of unknown cause, and neurological deterioration of unknown cause, according to the same source, which is echoed by the Patient Ombudsman in his complaint. before the Prosecutor’s Office.

“All these events,” adds the daughter’s story, “conclude on January 5, 2024 with the death of the patient.”

The Patient Advocate emphasizes that this type of situation “should not be repeated” and requests that the Prosecutor “an investigation of what happened and the mode of action of the Tenerife ambulance contract”.
