SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Jan. 9 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, shared part of the day this Tuesday with the students of the Basic Training course of the Canary Islands Police, which, for the first time, is taught jointly to the new agents of the Autonomous Police. and local police.

The objective of this pioneering initiative is to provide both bodies with homogeneous training to be able to provide a common and coordinated response to security challenges.

“One of the most precious assets we have in the Canary Islands is our security and as an autonomous community we believe that having a powerful general body deployed on the islands helps maintain something that is highly valued by those who visit us and, of course, by the citizens in general,” highlighted the president.

In this sense, the Minister of Security, Nieves Lady Barreto, recalled that work is already being done on the Strategic Plan of the Canarian Police for the consolidation of a new police model and territorial deployment that gives security value and specific weight in the Canarian administration.

“The objective of this security legislature is, without a doubt, to deploy the police on all the islands over these four years. We will start with Lanzarote and La Gomera, which we are already in process with the councils for the locations, and keep the academy permanently open in terms of training,” highlighted the counselor.

Thus, the counselor explained that the General Directorate of Security is already working on a diagnosis, as a first phase to be able to address the definition of the police model, the formulation of the strategic framework, the deployment of the action plan to be able to subsequently project the resources necessary for its execution.

The materialization of the plan and its publication will have the analysis of the Government, Parliament and the public exhibition process, states a note from the Ministry.

1,100 HOURS OF TRAINING

This course started in the month of November and will conclude in the month of April, after having completed 1,100 hours of training to provide the students of both bodies, humanly and technically, with knowledge and tools to guarantee public safety and security. coexistence, as well as to develop attitudes of respect for the institutions, people and values ​​of the society they must serve.

Within the training program, knowledge is imparted, among many other subjects, on citizen security, police intelligence and criminal investigation, safe driving, aquatic first aid in rescuing people and emergency care techniques, action protocols with minors or victims of domestic violence. gender, environmental, tourism and urban police powers or regulations and action in defense of animals.

Social proximity subjects such as interventions with groups at risk of exclusion, attention to sexual and gender diversity and hate crimes, attention to the immigrant population, mediation and conflict resolution also have a great weight in the training program. or emotional intelligence and its importance in the performance of police work, among others.
