In the last few hours, Maritime Rescue has rescued a total of 159 migrants who were sailing in three canoes in the waters of El Hierro and Gran Canaria, sources from the state agency inform Europa Press.
In the case of El Hierro, Salvamar Adhara has rescued the 57 occupants of a canoe that was located by the Civil Guard radar about five miles south of the port of La Restinga while the Río Segura patrol boat of the Civil Guard He rescued another 65 people.
With respect to Gran Canaria, a cayuco with 37 migrants on board – 35 men of sub-Saharan origin and two minors – was sighted by one of the sailboats participating in the ‘Viking Explorer’ that connects the island with Cape Verde a little more than 100 miles from Maspalomas.
From the Las Palmas Rescue Center, Guardamar Polimnia and Sasemar 101 were mobilized, which were in charge of the rescue and the migrants were disembarked at the Arguineguín dock, in the municipality of Mogán.
