The Three Kings festival It is tinged with inconvenience for more than 4,000 travelers whose plans are altered by the cancellations resulting from the Iberia handling staff strike. A total of 20 flights will be suspended, affecting 12 connections from the airport of The Palms and 8 in Tenerife North.

Behind this situation, shocking stories are revealed, some of which have been shared by those affected. Dr. Yvelise Barrios, of the University of La Laguna, recounts his experience in Herrera at COPE Tenerife. Her daughter, a student in Barcelona, had a flight scheduled to return to Barcelona on January 7 after spending Christmas in Tenerife. Given the cancellation, Barrios was forced to purchase a new flight for January 8 with another company, incurring costs significantly higher than the reimbursement offered by Iberia.

The affected person has denounced the situation, urging the authorities to consider the needs of the users: “The citizens Canary Islanders have no way to travel to the Peninsula other than by plane. The round-trip flights to Canary Islands “They should be an essential service and, as such, they should be carried out, despite the strike.” Barrios highlights the relevance of the dates on which the strike is carried out, affecting the celebrations at the end of Christmas and Three Kings Day, when many people are with their families. He also mentions cases of those who had to advance the celebration to January 5, since Iberia only offered relocations with other airlines for January 6. In his words, “in the end, the loser is always the user. We feel like second division citizens.”

Although the airline states that 92% of those affected have been relocated or refunded, customers pending solutions can still request them through the Iberia website. The strike, however, continues to generate complications and discontent among affected travelers.
