He Tenerife Council has summoned the town councils of La Orotava, El Rosario and Vilaflor to coordinate future deployments of the security operation in anticipation of a significant snowfall in the Teide National Park, causing a large influx of people.

With this objective, the insular director of Security and Emergencies, Iván Martín, has held various meetings with the representatives of the aforementioned municipalities to address the situation in case of having to implement this device.

“We are looking at the possible scenarios in case it has to be deployed and in La Orotava we have already agreed with the City Council that we will use the bus station as the nerve center of the operation,” the island director specified according to statements provided by the Tenerife Cabildo.

In El Rosario, works are currently being carried out in the area that is usually used to locate vehicles, so the Cabildo is looking for alternatives with the City Council, which it thanks for its willingness to collaborate, adds the island director.

The Snowfall Operation is a Civil Protection device designed by the Tenerife Cabildo in anticipation that, after a significant snowfall, there will be a large influx and concentration of people in the El Teide National Park and in the closest areas of the forest crown.

Broadly speaking, this operation is defined as a dynamic access regulation system during the busiest days, so that visits to these protected natural spaces can be carried out under adequate safety conditions.

Iván Martín explains that the objectives are to minimize the risks derived from snowfall on the peaks of Tenerife and to guarantee road safety on the island roads TF-21, TF-24 and TF-38, as well as to raise awareness among the population of the potential risks. on snow days and the civic recommendations during those days.

Likewise, “it is about guaranteeing the safety and quality of visits to citizens and regulating access in an orderly manner and consistent with the conservation of the values of protected natural spaces,” explains Iván Martín, who points out that with this measure It tries to promote and stimulate the use of public transport as an alternative to the private vehicle.
