Hotel overnight stays in the Canary Islands rise by 8% in November

SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 22 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Overnight stays in hotel establishments in the Canary Islands rose by 8% in November compared to the same month of the previous year, totaling a total of 5,968,966 overnight stays, according to data published this Friday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE).

6.8% more tourists stayed in the islands’ hotels in November than in the same month of the previous year, reaching 873,597 travelers. By nationality, 139,528 were residents in Spain, 15.97%, while 734,069 (84.03%) were foreigners. Compared to the previous year, travelers residing in Spain fell by 7.4% and foreigners increased by 10.1%.

Of the total overnight stays in the Canary Islands, 495,312 were made by residents in Spain (8.29%), while 5,473,654 (91.70%) were residents abroad.

By autonomous community, the Canary Islands was the region with the highest occupancy rate per square, with 75.19%, followed by Madrid (59.17%) and Catalonia (51.31%), while on the opposite side were Galicia, (31.07%), Asturias (32.07%) and Castilla – La Mancha (32.18%).

Taking into account the total number of overnight stays registered in Spain, the Canary Islands was the community with the highest percentage of overnight stays (31.33%) in November along with Andalusia (15.42%) and Catalonia (14.15%).

NATIONAL DATA

Spanish hotels are preparing to experience a new record year. During the first eleven months of the year, the number of overnight stays recorded increased by 8.4% compared to the same period of the previous year, reaching almost 330 million. In addition, they exceeded those of the first eleven months of 2019.

Business results are also heading towards a historic year. The average daily turnover of Spanish hotels for each occupied room was close to 105 euros last November, which represents an almost 10% increase compared to the same month in 2022.

During the month of November, overnight stays in Spanish hotel establishments exceeded 19 million, which represents an increase of 7.9% compared to the same month in 2022, when there were 17.7 million. In addition, they are higher than those of the same month in 2019.

Overnight stays by travelers residing in Spain exceeded 6.9 million, which represents 36.3% of the total. For their part, those of non-residents were above 12.1 million.

The average stay in accommodation decreased 0.4% this month compared to November 2022, standing at around 2.8 overnight stays per traveler, according to data from the INE.

Andalusia, the Community of Madrid and Catalonia were the main destinations for travelers residing in Spain in November, with 18.5%, 14.7% and 11.5% of the total overnight stays, respectively. For its part, the main destination chosen by non-residents was the Canary Islands, with 45.1% of the total overnight stays, with the following destinations being Catalonia and Andalusia, with 15.6% and 13.7% of the total, respectively.
