SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 21. (EUROPA PRESS) –
A cayuco with 56 migrants on board, including 3 women and 4 children, arrived today Thursday at the island of El Hierro after being intercepted on the high seas by a Maritime Rescue vessel, according to sources from the public body and the Cecoes. 1-1-2 Canary Islands.
The rescue operation began this morning after the Maritime Rescue Coordination Center in Tenerife received a notice from the Civil Guard about a suspicious echo sive, possible patera or cayuco, about 3 nautical miles from La Restinga.
Rescue immediately mobilized the ‘Adhara’ salvamar, which located a fiber canoe with 56 people on board and accompanied it to the port of La Restinga so that they could be treated by the health and safety device deployed on the dock.
Once on the ground, health personnel from the SUC and Primary Care, as well as volunteers from the Red Cross, assisted the occupants of the canoe, five of whom needed to be transferred to the Hospital Nuestra Señora de los Reyes, one of them in serious condition. .
