SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 20 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands have signed an agreement to improve mental health care for the population of La Palma after the volcanic eruption that occurred in 2021 for an amount of 1,500,000 euros.
Under this agreement, the Ministry of Health, through the General Directorate of Public Health, will contribute this amount for current mental health expenses.
Specifically, it will be a measure to support the establishment of the Psychosocial Rehabilitation Day Center and Night Unit (CDRP-UN) proposed by the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands, through its Ministry of Health.
Thus, it is about promoting social integration, reducing the risk of psychosocial deterioration or marginality and supporting the families of people with serious mental disorders.
To achieve these objectives, we want to provide the CDRP-UN with the necessary infrastructure, personnel and means to begin its activity, the Ministry details in a note.
For this reason, a subsidy of 1.5 million euros was included in the 2023 General State Budget, within the allocation of the General Directorate of Public Health of the Ministry of Health for mental health care in La Palma for the volcano catastrophe.
The agreement states that the size and magnitude of the natural disaster produced by the Cumbre Vieja volcano has produced an increase in pathologies that affect the mental health of the population.
This action is part of the SNS Mental Health Strategy 2022-2026, whose objective is to provide a useful tool to improve the emotional well-being of the population, comprehensively care for people with mental health problems, support their families and promote a comprehensive and community care model that promotes recovery and social integration.
The Psychosocial Rehabilitation Day Center (CDRP) is a specific device, aimed at the population with serious and persistent mental disorders that present difficulties in their psychosocial functioning and in their integration in the community, with the purpose of offering them psychosocial rehabilitation programs and community support that facilitates the improvement of their level of autonomy and functioning, as well as supporting their maintenance and social integration in the community in the best possible conditions of normalization, independence and quality of life.
In order to promote this project, it is necessary to provide this center with the necessary infrastructure and means to begin its activity.
