SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 19. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, expressed his satisfaction this Tuesday with the commitment of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, José Manuel Albares, that the archipelago “will be” in the Spain-Morocco bilateral commissions when matters that directly affect it are debated. .

In response to a question from the Joint Group, he pointed out that the Canary Islands must have “voice and information” because if not “there is a favorable breeding ground for fearful speeches to be generated” and although “they want to alarm” he understands that foreign relations depend on the Central government and the minister.

He explained that two days before the meeting between Albares and his Moroccan counterpart, Naser Burita, he spoke with the minister and guaranteed him that at the summit “there was no agenda for the Canary Islands” and that when there was, the autonomous community would be convened. , as agreed in the ‘Canary agenda’.

He also said that Albares offered to organize a commercial and institutional visit to the North African country and that from the Canary Islands there has been an insistence on reactivating the route with Tarfaya, delimiting the territorial waters and clarifying the control of air traffic in the Sahara that is carried out from the Canary Islands. “When the year begins, if there is bilateral, we will have a representative,” he stressed.

Raúl Acosta (AHI) has said that it is a “good sign” that the central government has informed the Canary Islands of the content of the meetings and although it was noted that the Canary Islands would not be discussed, territorial waters and territorial waters were later addressed before the media. irregular immigration.

He has said that the central government “is difficult to keep track of” due to its “change of position” with respect to the Sahara compared to the “unanimous position” of Parliament to support the right to self-determination of the Sahrawi people.

Along these lines, he has indicated that he is interested in a “friendly relationship” with Morocco but understands that it is “advisable to protocolize the participation of the Canary Islands as much as possible” in the meetings with Spain.
