Canary Islands, on pre-alert for wind this Saturday

He Government of the Canary Islandsthrough the General Directorate of Emergencies, has declared a pre-alert situation for wind in the Archipelago, starting at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 16.

This decision is made taking into account the information provided by the Meteorology Statal Agency (Aemet) and other available sources, and in application of the Specific Emergency Plan of Canary Islands by Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA).

Weather situation

Specifically, a wind episode is expected that It will begin with the eastern islands and will move to the western islands. Be general wind of east and southeast component moderate, with areas of strong (50-60 km/h) and gusts that will probably reach or exceed 70-80 km/h.

The most intense gusts will affect The Graciousnorth and west of LanzaroteWest of Fuerteventurasummits of Gran Canarianorthern slope of Tenerife between the municipalities of La Orotava and Santa Cruz de Tenerife, municipality of El Paso in The Palmnorth and west of La Gomera and peaks, Gulf valley and north of The iron.

Haze pre-alert

On the other hand, the Government of the Canary Islands updates the situation and maintains the pre-alert for haze in the Archipelagoalso starting at 06:00 on Saturday.

Thus, it is expected a new episode of haze that will affect the Islandsstarting with the eastern islands and moving to the rest of the islands.

Variable concentrations are expected (daily average PM10 100-150 µg/m 3) that could cause health problems for people with chronic or respiratory diseases.
