SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 14 (EUROPA PRESS) –
The Cabildo of Tenerife is promoting a campaign to promote the consumption of local avocado, its production and marketing, which has been developed between the insular institution, agricultural organizations and the State Security Forces and Corps, members of the Sector Security Commission Agrarian.
The Minister of the Primary Sector, Valentín González, explained at a press conference that this campaign has a double objective: on the one hand, to publicize the varieties of avocados that exist and are produced in Tenerife and on the other hand, to “raise awareness” among consumers about the importance of taking into account labeling and origin.
González assured that “the design of this campaign, which will be multi-channel, has had the involvement of the sector’s own professionals, who can provide information to consumers and suppliers about the cultivation of avocado in Tenerife, which is characterized by its seasonality, as well as the varieties that can be found on the market at different times of the year.
One of the objectives focuses on “disincentivizing the purchase of avocados acquired outside of traceability channels and that do not meet the appropriate criteria for sale.”
González proposed this campaign “in multiple media, with content adapted for the media and social networks.”
This informative action will also have visual support through billboards and posters, which will be available at avocado sales points, technical offices, Agrarian Extension Agencies and at the headquarters and offices of the professional organizations and associations that participate. actively in the campaign, picks up a note from the corporation.
In recent years, avocado cultivation has increased significantly in Tenerife, where more than 1,100 hectares are dedicated.
Avocado cultivation has grown the most in the Canary Islands in the last five years, specifically by more than 100%, and a large part of the fruit grown is sold on the market.
