The president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Davilaassured this Wednesday that “99% of the neighbors” sees the expansion of the tram by The Gallega.

As explained in a press conference, “it is the most suitable, optimal and sustainable solution to improve mobility on the Island.” Likewise, he has insisted that the project will not affect the pedestrian routes taken by residents and consumers in the commercial area, although he understands that “it can be discussed.”

In this sense, the island president has reported that meetings have already begun with representatives of neighborhood associations to clarify that the planned route is not going where they thought.

Dávila has insisted on the “firm conviction” of the Tenerife Cabildo to carry out this expansion that will take the tram to the ‘Snowman’ area and improve the mobility of the residents of La Gallega.

The opposition of the neighbors reaches the Common deputy

However, representatives of six neighborhood and commercial associations in the southwest district of Santa Cruz de Tenerife have held a meeting with the Common Deputy, Rafael Yanes, to show their rejection of the project.

The neighbors dispute that line 2 will cross Avenida de Los Majuelos and not Avenida de Las Hespérides, planned in the initial route.

“We face the loss of our only commercial, social and dynamic lung. Los Majuelos Avenue is our artery of coexistence and changing the tram route to this location is a nonsense that has been decided behind the backs of the neighbors and their social representatives,” denounced Domingo Vicente Chávez, representative of two of the associations.
