SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, December 12. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, has criticized that the Government of the Canary Islands – formed by the Canarian Coalition and the Popular Party – has voted against the agreements of the Fiscal and Financial Policy Council, where the State committed to allocate more resources to the islands.

In statements to the media, the minister explained that the agreements approved yesterday mean that the Canary Islands will have 760 million euros more than what it received last year, and 224 million more than what the regional Executive itself initially budgeted in the accounts. regional by 2024.

“That is, a better proposal is made and they vote against,” criticized Torres, who accused the Canarian Government of being “putting party criteria ahead of the defense of its territory.” “This is a very serious error that the citizens of the Canary Islands have to know and be aware of,” he added.

Asked about the increase in the spending ceiling, the minister highlighted that this increase will mean that collection will increase seven times more, which means more resources for the essential basic services provided by city councils, which will see their collection increase by 23%, and the autonomous communities, whose collection increases by 15%.

“With all these extra resources, the PP votes against because they are into something else. They are trying to block and prevent the Government of Spain from moving forward and they are putting party criteria and their particular benefits ahead of the people. “.

Regarding a hypothetical Senate veto of the General State Budgets, where the popular ones have a majority, Ángel Víctor Torres hoped that it would not happen and that he would not put himself ahead of trying to veto budgets that are better for the autonomous communities to obtain electoral interest . “That is not defending the Constitution and the well-being of citizens,” he added.
