Sources of the purple formation assure that González will not be finally the replacement of Rodríguez, although they did not specify if the resignation is for personal reasons of the candidate or for a political decision adopted by the leaderships of Podemos and Izquierda Unida, in accordance in any case with the interested party, so that the seat remains in the hands of the party to that the former Tenerife deputy belonged to. Both formations agreed in their electoral pact of 10-N that the list for the western Canarian province would be headed by Rodríguez on behalf of Podemos, and that the second place would be occupied by a representative of IU.
Secondly, United We can remain pending the Supreme Court’s response to Rodríguez’s request to provisionally suspend the execution of his disqualification sentence in a letter in which he charges against the president of Congress, Meritxell Batet, for invading powers with the withdrawal of his seat.
The already ex-deputy yesterday sent a letter to the High Court in which he states that, although his sentence is final, he still has a legal battle, since he can file an incident of nullity against the resolution -as he has already announced that he will do- or go for protection to the Constitutional Court.
If Fátima González resigns, and after communicating said resignation to the JEC, the list would continue to run and it would then be up to Patricia Mesa to occupy the now vacant seat, but sources from the left-wing coalition acknowledge doubts in this regard, thus leaving open the possibility that it is another member of the list who finally ends up replacing Rodríguez. What both parties have ruled out is the possibility of leaving the vacant seat unfilled, as initially proposed by some sectors of the purple party in the Canary Islands.
