The improvement and rehabilitation of Island Operational Coordination Center (Cecopin) and the promotion of the development of Civil Protection volunteer groups will have an extra item of 106,882 euros in the budgets of the Tenerife Council for 2024. This is reflected in the amendment presented to the draft of the Corporation’s accounts project by CC and PP, the parties that form the island Government. The Island Security Directorate and Emergencies, for which the nationalist Iván Martín is responsible, raised the need to “continue the tasks of adaptation and fine-tuning of Cecopin, for the correct functioning in the management of all extraordinary civil protection emergencies that correspond to the insular Corporation ». On the other hand, the increase in credit is proposed, initially planned at 20,000 euros, to “contract prior studies that allow the definition of the needs and technical specifications in the design and development of the future WEB Platform for Cecopin Emergencies.”

Action Strategy

In another order, the Action Strategy on Civil Protection of the Cabildo de Tenerife (2023-2030), approved by the Island Government Council, contemplates the need to assist and help municipalities in the matter through advice, with special technical support to volunteer groups. Among the actions is providing them with clothing, PPE, tools and radio communications equipment through nominal subsidies. For this, a credit is contemplated in the 2024 budget. The same document includes an item of 5,000 euros to provide new furniture to Cecopin. In addition, equipment for an information process will be incorporated for 36,882 euros, in addition to commissioning studies and technical work valued at another 20,000.

Regarding the equipment of the Civil Protection Volunteer Groups in the municipalities of Tenerife, the investment amounts to 45,000 euros, until reaching the global amount planned for the emergency service of 106,882. The Island Operational Coordination Center (Cecopin) is the operational and coordination body dependent on the Island Council of Tenerife, from where the actions aimed at addressing the emergency in its territorial and jurisdictional scope are monitored, as well as the coordination of the organisms.
