SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 30 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The counselor of the Primary Sector of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Valentín González, attended this Thursday the signing of the agreement between the State and the public company SEIASA, which includes the works of the western irrigation network and the Las Charquetas pond and which They involve an investment of almost 20 million euros, of which the island institution contributes 20%.

González points out in a note that “this agreement aims to promote very important projects for the use of regenerated irrigation water in the western region of Tenerife, on the path of seeking solutions for the water crisis that the island is suffering, after suffering the warmest and driest months in the historical series”.

This agreement, he indicates, “allows a fundamental investment in water infrastructure, but also provides the possibility of promoting actions that allow sustainable use of water resources.”

The agreement is part of the Plan to Improve Efficiency and Sustainability in Irrigation 2021-2026, promoted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, and involves actions in the municipalities of Adeje, Guía de Isora and Santiago del Teide.

The project, which will be divided into three phases, is part of the state Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan.

The objective of phases I and II is to establish a distribution network of purified pressure water that dominates a useful cultivation area of about 1,200 hectares in the municipalities of Adeje, Guía de Isora and Santiago del Teide.

An investment of 8,480,000 euros is planned for this action and the layout of the networks has been carried out in such a way that, for most of the route, the pipelines run along existing tracks and roads.

For its part, the Las Charquetas regulating pond has an estimated budget of 9,540,000 euros, will have an approximate capacity of 250,000 cubic meters and a total height of 16 meters.
