The cable car opens an exhibition about Mount Teide and its legend

Teide Legend: science and legend is the new proposal that the cable car has had since yesterday. This is a permanent exhibition located in the new visitor center located at the base of its facilities. The exhibition allows the whole family to learn a little better about the history of the highest peak in Spain. It explains the use that the Guanches made of the resources of Teide, as well as the eruption that shaped its summit, around 1,000 years ago.

The director of the cable car, Ignacio Sabaté, indicated that one of the greatest frustrations of those who visit the place It is to unexpectedly encounter one of those closing days due to weather circumstances. Now, with this project, a new proposal appears in the area. Facilities that already existed have been used to offer an exhibition hall, cafeteria, shop and service area. Its opening hours are from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday to Sunday, including days when the cable car does not operate.

Sabaté maintained in his speech thatThis offer enriches the visit to Teide, “with values that convey elements of Canarian science and culture that are rigorous and enjoyable, with a very modern graphic language, without compromising scientific rigor.” He added that tourists who visit the cable car “will leave with a more complete idea about the volcanic origin of our Island and the life of the Guanche aborigines in this place.”

«Teide Legend begins in 2012 with a repositioning process of what was the Cable Cara means of transport that becomes what it is today: a tourist leisure operator on Teide,” said the head of Volcano Teide Business Development, Joan Rodríguez de la Sierra, before an inauguration began, which was joined by the island councilor of Natural Environment, Sustainability, Safety and Emergencies of the Tenerife CouncilBlanca Pérez, and other institutional and professional representatives linked to the environment and tourism. Pérez highlighted “the ethnographic and anthropological work for the exhibition that Volcano Teide has developed, with a modern and attractive air that improves the visit to the cable car and represents a relevant contribution to the leisure offer of the entire island of Tenerife».

The new proposal will also be open when the cable car cannot operate due to weather

Specifically, the Teide Cable Car was inaugurated in the summer of 1971. It subsequently underwent this updating process that has led it to become the third most important leisure offer on the Island, after Loro Parque and Siam Park. «Sustainability has been one of its great references. Waste is separated, recycling is encouraged and numerous products of this type are used,” Volcano Teide highlights about its way of working.

The cultural and leisure proposal that has now been launched at the base of the facility has the scientific advice and collaboration of the Museum of Nature and Archeology (MUNA) and the Volcanological Institute of Canary Islands (Involcan). All people who board the Rambleta del Teide in the cable car cabins will have free access. Those who do not go up in the aforementioned booths can enjoy the exhibition by paying an entrance fee of three euros, which can be exchanged for the same amount in the cafeteria or in purchases at the official souvenir store.

The exhibition.

The permanent exhibition Teide Legend: science and legend includes a reproduction of a mummy. Through panels, video reproductions and the exhibition of a short film, scientifically proven data about the eruption are combined with a legend about the shape we know of the summit of Teide today. This story is illustrated by Luis Suárez, “one of the Canaries with the greatest international projection in the world of comics.” The script and texts are by María Mengual, “recognized expert in cultural heritage.” The design and layout have been contributed by Javier Martínez.

Several characters have been created for the exhibition, as announced this Tuesday. The main ones are the young Guanche girl Tassat, the sun goddess Magec, the demon Guayota, the sorcerer Guañameñe and the guardian protector of the Guanches, Achamán.

The store.

After touring the exhibition space, the store appears. «The Teide Legend exhibition gives way to a shopping area that includes a giant photocall. “It allows visitors to take photographs with the main protagonists of the comic,” they indicate from Volcano Teide. “The store space offers all types of products related to the Teide Legend characters and the Teide National Park,” they add. And they complete: «An interesting fact is that most of the products offered in this store are made by artisans and artists from the Islands, who provide very creative proposals in wood, fabric, ceramics, plants, recycled products, stone, jewelry and other materials.

The cafeteria and other services.

The cafeteria area offers “a wide variety of light offerings made in-house and very committed to local products” and “a delicious brunch of Canarian products,” highlighted Volcano Teide. The cable car has also been incorporating other services over the years, such as free parking, toilets and a shop selling Canarian products.

100% renewable

The director of the Teide cable car, Ignacio Sabaté, highlighted that this facility and its station are going to be the first in the sector in the world to operate entirely with renewable energy. Specifically, the photovoltaic source will be used, while the energy from the cable car cabins will also be reused. That is one of the great objectives that Volcano Teide has for 2024. Sabaté stated that the project as a whole has been pursuing “the social, environmental and economic progress of Tenerife and its inhabitants.” | D.R.
