SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Oct 26 (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands has advanced to the Cabildo de La Palma a first draft of the Insular Master Plan of Industrial Areas in which alternatives are given to cover the demand for industrial land that exists on the islands and are identified the priorities to face the current situation in the sector.

The general director of Industry, Yolanda Luaces, presented this document to the insular Minister of Industry and Energy, Carlos Cabrera, during the meeting that both held this morning at the Cabildo de La Palma.

The progress of the Master Plan identifies 33 industrial areas on the island with a global area of 5,396,300 square meters, of which 649,764 are occupied. Specifically, on La Palma there are 163 plots with activity in which there are 169 companies installed. Before the volcanic eruption of Cumbre Vieja and the loss of the industrial urbanization of Callejón de la Gata and its 49,140 square meters, there were 175 industrial plots and 181 companies, 12 more than at present.

Yolanda Luaces explained that the objective of this plan is “to establish a roadmap to identify and address the main actions to be carried out, taking into account the current situation of the different industrial areas on the island, their development possibilities and the associated facilities and services “.

He added that, given the emergency situation in which La Palma finds itself, “we have made an effort to advance this document and lay the foundations to be able to undertake, as soon as possible, actions that help to recover and boost the industrial sector of La Palma “.

The Minister of Industry and Energy, Carlos Cabrera, conveyed to the Director General the need to streamline planning in the island’s industrial areas and the importance of focusing efforts on providing an urgent response to those industrial activities that have been lost. or they have been affected by the volcano in some areas or plots that are already available.

“From the Cabildo we are finalizing the relationship of those affected with the aim of knowing their needs and being able to respond and improve their situation and even build, if necessary, temporary warehouses to enable the development of these industrial activities,” he said.

In this context, the Master Plan contemplates, among other measures, what may be the most immediate alternatives to cover the lost space in the Callejón de la Gata, which was devastated by the eruption of the Cumbre Vieja volcano, and relocate the affected companies .

Within the framework of the meeting, Yolanda Luaces recalled that the Industry area will provide financial support both to the Cabildo and to the municipalities affected by the eruption, to promote the fitting out of new industrial land and to promote the construction of industrial warehouses for industries that have been left without headquarters.

In parallel, in the medium and long term, the Government of the Canary Islands will continue with the development of actions of a strategic nature, aimed at strengthening the industrial structure of La Palma, among which the organization of programs aimed at the modernization and digitization of the fabric stands out. to help accelerate and consolidate the island’s economic recovery.
