The mayor of Santa Cruz de Tenerife and deputy of the Canary Coalition, José Manuel Bermúdez, has registered on behalf of the Canary Nationalist Group and with the support of the groups that support the Government of the Canary Islands in Parliament (PP–ASG and Mixed Group), two amendments to the 2024 Autonomous Community Budgets of great importance for the Tenerife capital.

The first of them has to do with the basic project to bury the so-called Santa Cruz de Tenerife penetration highway, the TF4, which is essential for improving the Port’s traffic as it exits through the Auditorium area.

“This is a project that we have always considered fundamental at the City Council and that, however, despite the fact that it was announced with great fanfare by the previous Government, in 2021, it was never even contemplated,” said Bermúdez. .

This burial will improve the connection between the Port and the city and port traffic, avoiding the long queues of trucks that currently form at the exit of the Auditorium area. “It is a very congested road, especially at rush hour, so the idea is that it could have two lanes underground, something similar to the 3 de Mayo Avenue tunnel, to divert port traffic that mixes with the of the city,” explained the mayor and deputy.

Decongesting this traffic junction is key for Santa Cruz de Tenerife and “we have included an item of 100,000 euros, via amendment, which will help us start drafting the project,” said Bermúdez.

The other registered amendment has to do with the Soup Kitchen of the Santa Cruz Shelter, for which 200,000 euros have been requested through the Budgets of the Autonomous Community for 2024. Bermúdez stressed that the amendment seeks to increase the budget that the The Autonomous Community establishes the Municipal Reception Center (CAM), where work of insular and regional interest is carried out, since many of the people who are welcomed there do not come from the municipality, but from other parts of the Island or the Canary Islands. This will allow us to have a contribution of 200,000 euros more next year and the idea is to reach 500,000 euros with various contributions from the Government itself,” he commented. “Our obligation is to serve the most disadvantaged and we believe that it is important that the Government of the Canary Islands, through Social Welfare, gets involved,” said the mayor.

Bermúdez also wanted to remember that in the first plenary session of November he presented a NLP on the old Spa of Santa Cruz, which was unanimously approved by all groups in Parliament, without amendments, and that the Canarian Health Service has included in these Budget an item of 100,000 euros to begin drafting the project, which will allow the rehabilitation of the building and its subsequent use as an Anaga health center.
