WORKS PUERTITO DE GÜÍMAR DOCK

He Council will invest 850,616 euros in the first phase of the works to improve the coastal front of Puertito de Güímar. This project will focus on Plaza El Cabezo, with works that will improve considerably access to the sea and the services of the bathing area, it will create a well-kept environment provided with a cafeteria, a large garden area, a sports esplanade and public bathrooms.

This contribution was part of the agreements adopted by the island Government Council, in which the Tourism area approved the agreement between the Cabildo and the Güímar City Council for the execution of this work of the Puertito de Güímar Coastal Front project. Phase 1, included in the Program Tenerife and Mar. Lope Afonso, counselor of the area, explained that with this action “we intend to increase the spatial and environmental quality of the promenade that runs along the coastal edge, enhancing the direct perception of the coast, access to the promenade and resting places from which to contemplate the sea.

Afonso recalled that these works are part of the El Puertito Master Plan project, promoted by the Güímar City Council and that covers the 2.5 kilometers that separate Las Bajas, on the southern edge of the town, from Malpaís de Güímar, on the northern side. . This initiative was proposed by the current mayor, Gustavo Pérez, through a consultation in which more than 250 people participated with contributions in the creation of this project that aims to improve Puertito de Güímar.

“It is a work awaited by the neighborhood and the municipality,” said councilor Güimarero yesterday. Gustavo Pérez recalled that in 2018 and 2019 “we worked side by side with the social and business sectors of El Puertito, obtaining a needs report to act on the coastal front. “It was a novel initiative, since it worked through citizen participation in a field of design and urban planning.” Four years later, the mayor of Güímar was satisfied that, “it is finally made known that, thanks to an investment by the Cabildo agreed with the Güímar City Council, we are going to begin to act on the improvement of El Cabezo beach.” .

This initiative also arises from the need to provide and optimize a potential resource for the municipality. «Studies indicate that El Puertito can accommodate 5,000 people enjoying the beach at the same time and walking along the coastline. It is clear that we are in a strategic place for the Island and, therefore, we must value it.

From the moment he proposed this project, in 2018, Gustavo Pérez defended that “we want to be the ideal place to enjoy the coast as a family. El Puertito will be a reference for how things should be done based on listening, analyzing slowly and proposing coherent and orderly solutions. “This way we will obtain a new economic and social lung for Güímar and the region.”

With what was announced by the vice president of the Cabildo, Lope Afonso (PP), “a series of actions planned in the area begin, such as the recently announced improvement of the gravel on the beach. If we continue in this line of work with the Cabildo, Güímar could Add a new blue flag for Tenerife.
