SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 23 (EUROPA PRESS) –

Today, Thursday, the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, inaugurated a mural with phrases, contributions and reflections that show the unanimous commitment of the Chamber to the elimination of violence against women.

“Eliminating gender violence must be a shared, common and inalienable objective for all political forces and society as a whole,” wrote Astrid Pérez in the first of the many messages of this initiative, raised on the occasion of the International Day for Elimination of Violence against Women, which will be celebrated next Saturday, November 25. On that day, the façade of the courtyard of the Canary Islands Parliament will also be illuminated and decorated with a large purple bow.

Astrid Pérez recalled that the Parliament of the Canary Islands “cannot be oblivious to the commemoration of 25N and wanted to develop this action to raise awareness and contribute to eradicating violence against women.” “The fact of being born a woman, of being born a girl, should not, in any case, be an added danger. Because we are women, because we are girls, we are already in danger. We do not want to be killed, we do not want to be raped. And We have to continue working, even more so from the Parliament of the Canary Islands, to raise awareness, especially among men,” he added.

“We must educate in values, we must educate children from a young age so that they grow up with values of equality and respect. This way we will contribute to ending this tragedy,” stated Astrid Pérez.

Representatives of all the parties that make up the parliamentary groups (PSOE, CC, PP, NC, VOX, ASG and AHI) left their phrases and reflections on this panel, which will remain on display in the lobby of the Parliament of the Canary Islands until next Monday, 27 November.

In addition, authorities such as the president and vice president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo and Manuel Domínguez, respectively, or the president and vice president of the Cabildo of Tenerife, Rosa Dávila and Lope Afonso, showed their commitment to the elimination of violence against women. , among other public positions.

Deputies from all groups also joined the initiative, as well as counselors from the Government of the Autonomous Community such as Mariano Hernández Zapata, Narvay Quintero or Candelaria Delgado.
