The mayor of villero, Francisco Linares (CC), highlights the importance of this political consensus “for the benefit of all residents” and encouraged the inhabitants of the municipality to “find out about the large number of bonuses and exemptions in force, which are not applied directly, but it is necessary to request by check-in ». For example, pensioners are entitled to a 50% reduction in the fee for garbage collection, and lLarge families can see taxes as important as the IBI reduced by up to 30%.

The mayor of Economy and Finance, Felipe David Benítez (CC), stresses that the tax burden in La Orotava “It is below the national, regional and island average, in the case of municipalities with a similar population.” And he adds that each resident of the town contributes an average of 520.80 euros per year in taxes and fees, “but receives more than double in investments and services from the City of La Orotava, about 1,071 euros, according to data from the Treasury».

Víctor Luis (PSOE), Aida Salazar (Assembly for La Orotava) and Patricia Fernández (PP) they accompanied Linares and Benítez in the press conference in which the main novelties of the fiscal ordinances that will go to plenary session were announced today. The nationalist representatives thanked “the work and collaboration of the different political parties.” For Linares, «this democratic harmony is very healthy and positive for the municipality, since the initials are left aside for the benefit of the interests of the neighbors. That the four forces are capable of reaching agreements in favor of the citizen is an example in the Canary Islands ”.

La Orotava City Council has lost, due to the coronavirus pandemic, about 4 million euros in revenue. A decline that has complicated the financing of investments and services, which has not prevented the maintenance of essential services and others of great social importance such as extracurricular activities, the scholarship plan, who turns 32, or the different municipal schools.

Benítez remarks that, despite this decrease in income, the villera Corporation remains firm in its commitment to reducing taxes and fees, “which will allow residents to save around 1.5 million euros.” Among the measures with the greatest social impact, the mayor points out a new reduction in the Tax on Mechanically Traction Vehicles, popularly known as taxiing, which drops by 2.5% (which will be added to the reduction of 2.5% that has already been approved in 2019); aid for small businesses, which will pay 15% less garbage collection fee and bonuses for new entrepreneurs, which will see the amount of the garbage fee reduced by 75% for five years. To collaborate in the defense of the environment and fight against climate change, the bonus for the implantation of solar panels to reduce electricity consumption rises from 30 to 40%. The new tax ordinances will come into force as of January 1 of next year 2022. As soon as they are approved, they can be consulted on the municipal website (www.laorotava.es).
