SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 21. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The PSOE of La Palma has expressed its deep regret over the death of Jerónimo Saavedra Acevedo, Adopted Son of Isla Bonita and one of the most relevant figures in the recent history of the Canary Islands.

The general secretary of the La Palma socialists, Anselmo Pestana, has stated that “I have no doubt that the sadness of the La Palma socialist family over the departure of Jerónimo Saavedra also reflects the feelings of the entire La Palma society, which felt an enormous appreciation and recognition towards the one who was the first president of the Autonomous Community, minister and Deputy of the Common, among other responsibilities.”

Pestana highlighted that “Jerónimo Saavedra has contributed decisively to cultivating democratic culture, tolerance, respect for others and the promotion of a more just and egalitarian society in the Canary Islands.”

“He leaves us a colleague, a friend and a person dedicated to public service, a reference and for many, also, a teacher who cultivated like few others the promotion of education and culture as the foundations of a modern and advanced Canary Islands,” says Pestana. .

In this sense, he stressed that “we are left with his immense legacy”, highlighting, among other aspects, the decisive push he made in the Islands in terms of public education as president of the Government of the Canary Islands. “This turnaround that he gave to public education laid the foundations for what he believed and defended: a society that promoted equal opportunities,” he concludes.
