SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE, Nov. 21. (EUROPA PRESS) –

The Government of the Canary Islands has declared three days of official mourning in the Autonomous Community for the death of former president Jerónimo Saavedra Acevedo in such a way that from this Tuesday until next Friday, the flags of all public centers dependent on the Autonomous Community will fly half mast

The declaration of three days of official mourning by the Government of the Canary Islands was already adopted, on October 10, 2010, after the death of former president Adán Martín in a hospital in Barcelona.

The president of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, will travel to the capital of Gran Canaria this afternoon to attend the wake of Jerónimo Saavedra in the Town Hall of the Las Palmas de Gran Canaria City Council and to convey his condolences directly to family and friends.

In the plenary session of Parliament he lamented the death and defined Saavedra as an “affable, measured, coherent person and always willing to help teach.”

“One of the greats of politics has left us,” he noted, also highlighting that the former minister “was great” in other areas such as politics, culture or education.

He has indicated that he was one of “those people who leave their mark” due to his own personality and highlighted that he “rarely” did not learn something when they had the opportunity to talk, in such a way that his “best legacy” was his teaching ability.

Clavijo has admitted that this Wednesday is a “sad day” for the Canary Islands and the “socialist family”, family and friends and has claimed Saavedra as an “example” of how to practice politics in the face of current times, based on the search for ” meeting” and “affability” and putting the “general interest” of the Canary Islands first.
