The couple made up of Luiz Monzón and José Carlos Déniz from Granada in the CCRA category (1.08: 06) became yesterday the protagonists of the second day of the historic Orvecame Isla de Tenerife Rally, which this year celebrated its 47th edition of satisfactions to the motor and gasoline lovers.

Two modalities were those that were disputed in Tenerife’s roads, the Canary Islands Asphalt Rally Championship (CCRA); and that of the scoring test for the Spanish Championship of Historic Vehicles (CERVH), too many arguments to brighten the day for the thousands of Canarian fans who waited in the gutters.

The truth is that the Monzón-Déniz couple, who have two won Spanish Championships on their backs, was the most regular in the nine stages contested in the joranda yesterday with their powerful Skoda Fabia Rally 2, always closely followed by the Miguel Ángel Suárez and Daniel Sosa from Gran Canaria, also at the wheel of a Skoda Fabia Rallye 2, although he had a start in the third section of the seventh stage in Fasnia. It was the great surprise of the day, since this important incident completely paved the victory for their rivals.

In this case, another of the great beneficiaries of the day was the couple made up of Pedro Afonso and Javier Afonso, father and son, who with their Ford Fiesta Evo II, which at that time occupied the position of Miguel Ángel Súarez and Luis Alberto Rodríguez, who at the controls of the Skoda Fabia R5 managed to get ahead of the Los Realejos team, not without great difficulties.

In the end, the Monzón-Déniz couple won the 47th Rally Isla de Tenerife by achieving a time of 1.08: 06; followed by Abreu-Rodríguez, 1.10: 38 ‘; Afonso-Afonso, 1.10: 42; Mesa-Pérez, 1: 11.08; Falcón-Páez, 1.11: 08; Suárez-Gómez, 1.11: 08; Fuentes-Peña, 1.13: 34; and Cruz-Hernández, 1.13: 40.

These were the first eight couples to lead the final classification of an Orvecame Rally in which a total of 38 vehicles had to abandon for different reasons in a highly demanding competition that left almost no one indifferent. On the other hand, the second bet of the competition was the Spanish Championship of Historical Vehicles (CERVH) and there the arts of Miguel Rosa and María Torres (Ford Escort RS 2000 (MkII), with a time of 1.18: 52, prevailed to César Estévez and José Antonio de la Torre (Mazda SA22C Savanna RX7).
